The Congress party has announced its first list of 48 candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly election. Party chief Nana Patole will be contesting from Sakoli in Bhandara district, while sitting legislator Aslam Shaikh has been retained for the Malad constituency. The election is scheduled to be held on November 20.
In addition to these candidates, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar will be contesting from Brahmapuri in Chandrapur district. Former ministers Nitin Raut and Balasaheb Thorat have been fielded from Nagpur North and Sangamner respectively. In Mumbai, other candidates include Mohammed Arif Naseem from Chandivali, Jyoti Gaikwad from Dharavi, and Amin Patel from Mumbaidevi.
Former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan will be contesting from the Karad South constituency in Satara, while ex-minister Yashomati Thakur will be contesting from the Teosa seat in Amravati district. The sons of late Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Dhiraj and Amit, have also been given tickets to contest from Latur Rural and Latur City respectively. Vishwajeet Kadam, the son of former Congress leader Patangrao, will be contesting from Palus-Kadegaon in Sangli district.
The Congress party’s allies in the Maha Vikas Aghadi, Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar), have also announced their first set of candidates. The Shiv Sena has declared 65 candidates, while the NCP has declared 45 candidates in its first list. Sitting MLAs from both parties have made it to the list, including Sunil Raut, Sunil Prabhu, Rutuja Latke, and others from the Shiv Sena, and Jayant Patil, Jitendra Awhad, Anil Deshmukh, and others from the NCP.
