The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) in Thane district, Maharashtra, recently made a significant decision to award a compensation of Rs 23.54 lakh to the family of a man who tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident back in 2013. This ruling came from Thane MACT chairman and principal district judge S B Agrawal, who ordered the owner of a tempo and United India Insurance to pay the compensation, along with 7.5 per cent interest per annum.
The deceased, Sabir Haroon Saldurkar, was a 30-year-old man who was working in Qatar at the time of the accident. He was on his way from Dapoli to Harne when a tempo, driven recklessly, collided with his motorcycle, resulting in his untimely death. The tribunal acknowledged the financial impact of this loss on Saldurkar’s family and awarded a compensation package that included various components such as loss of estate, loss of filial consortium, and funeral expenses.
In a similar case, the MACT in Thane district also granted a compensation of Rs 23.54 lakh to the family of Yusuf Ibrahim Inamdar, who lost his life in a motorcycle accident in 2018. The tribunal held both the owner and insurer of the motorcycle responsible for the compensation, as the accident occurred due to the rider’s failure to control the vehicle and avoid a collision.
To ensure the financial security of the deceased’s family, the tribunal ordered a portion of the compensation amount to be placed in fixed deposits in the names of the deceased’s wife and mother. This decision aims to provide a stable source of income for the family members over a specified period, offering them some financial stability during a difficult time.
These rulings by the Thane MACT underscore the importance of holding responsible parties accountable for their actions in accidents resulting in loss of life. By providing fair compensation to the families of the deceased, the tribunal strives to offer some semblance of justice and support in the face of such tragic events. It also serves as a reminder of the need for caution and responsibility while on the road to prevent such accidents and their devastating consequences.
