The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading the pack with 148 assembly seats in the upcoming Maharashtra elections, followed by the Congress with 103 seats. The Shiv Sena, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has candidates on 80 seats, while Deputy CM Ajit Pawar’s NCP has nominated 53 contestants. Additionally, there are five seats allocated to other Mahayuti allies, with two segments still undecided.
In the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, the Congress is contesting 103 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) on 89, and NCP (SP) on 87. The MVA has also allocated six seats to other allies, with three assembly segments yet to be finalized.
A total of nearly 8,000 candidates from major political parties have filed their nominations for the 288 assembly seats. The nomination process began on October 22 and concluded on October 29. Verification and scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on October 30, with the last date for withdrawal of candidatures set for November 4.
Polling is scheduled for November 20, with the results to be announced three days later. The ruling Mahayuti and the opposition MVA are the main contenders for power in the upcoming elections.
In a separate development, a total of 10,905 nomination papers representing 7,995 candidates have been submitted for the Maharashtra Assembly elections 2024 across 288 constituencies, as confirmed by the Chief Electoral Officer’s office. Additionally, 1,648 complaints of code of conduct violations were received on the C-Vigil application from October 15 to 29, with 1,646 issues resolved by the Election Commission.
The C-Vigil App allows vigilant citizens to report violations of the code of conduct and can be downloaded from any app store. Citizens can register complaints through the app, leading to appropriate action taken after investigation by the concerned team.
