CIDCO Chairman Sanjay Shirsat recently visited the Navi Mumbai International Airport project site to review the progress of the construction work. Accompanied by other senior officials from CIDCO, including Vice-Chairman and Managing Director Vijay Singhal, Joint Managing Directors Shantanu Goel and Dilip Dhole, Chief General Manager Geetha Pillai, and Chief Engineer Sheela Karunakaran, Shirsat expressed satisfaction with the current status of the project.

Described as the largest greenfield airport in the country, the Navi Mumbai International Airport is being developed by CIDCO on a sprawling area of 1,160 hectares, planned to be completed in two phases. This ambitious project aims to significantly contribute to the development of Maharashtra and the nation as a whole. With an estimated capacity to handle 90 million passengers and 2.5 tonnes of cargo annually, the airport will play a crucial role in the region’s connectivity and economic growth.

During his visit, Shirsat emphasized the importance of timely completion of the project, urging the authorities involved to expedite the construction process. He expressed confidence that the airport would soon be operational, benefiting both local residents and travelers from across the country.

The Navi Mumbai International Airport, also known as the DB Patil International Airport, has been assigned the three-letter code ‘NMI’ by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), a significant milestone in its journey towards completion. Once operational, the airport will use this code to be identified in the global aviation network, facilitating easy access for airlines and passengers.

In a public-private partnership model, the development of the airport has been entrusted to the concessionaire company NMIAL, which has already completed the pre-development works and commenced the actual construction phase. Recent tests conducted by the Airport Authority of India, including signal and instrument landing system tests, have been successful, further advancing the progress of the project.

With two parallel runways and full-length parallel taxiways to accommodate aircraft movements efficiently, the Navi Mumbai International Airport is poised to become a vital hub for air travel in the region. The project’s strategic location and modern infrastructure will not only enhance connectivity but also boost economic activities in the surrounding areas.

Overall, the review conducted by CIDCO Chairman Sanjay Shirsat underscores the significant progress made at the Navi Mumbai International Airport project site. As construction continues to move forward, the airport’s completion is eagerly anticipated, marking a major milestone in the development of Maharashtra’s aviation infrastructure.
