Children are naturally curious, and parents are always looking for ways to provide them with accurate answers to satisfy their curiosity. A recent study conducted by Kantar on behalf of Amazon Alexa surveyed over 750 parents in six cities across India in June 2024. The study found that 54% of parents often struggle to provide instant answers to their kids’ questions. When faced with a question they don’t know the answer to, 52% of parents will immediately search for the answer to provide an accurate response. Surprisingly, 44% of parents admitted to making up answers on the spot, while only 3% would ignore the question or change the topic to avoid further inquiries.
Kids can ask a wide range of questions, from “How to make a car?” to “How big is the universe?” and parents often find themselves stumped by seemingly simple questions like “What season comes between winter and summer?” or “Why do parents have to work?” Interestingly, 60% of parents reported feeling challenged by their children’s questions, with some even redirecting them to ask the other parent for answers.
The study also revealed that children tend to ask more questions when engaged in activities like watching TV, traveling, studying, participating in outdoor activities, using handheld devices, or listening to adult conversations. Parents noted that topics like food, animals, nature, general knowledge, holidays, technology, and movies were among the most common subjects of their children’s inquiries.
In today’s digital age, technology has become a valuable tool for parents seeking information to answer their children’s questions. Over 80% of parents reported using technology, such as voice AI services like Alexa, to find information and provide responses to their kids. Voice AI services can assist parents in quickly accessing a wide range of information on various topics, from science to history, helping children satisfy their curiosity with accurate and timely answers.
Encouragingly, more than 90% of parents stated that they actively encourage their children to ask questions as a way to promote learning and personal growth. Additionally, 92% of parents acknowledged that they themselves have learned new things through the process of responding to their children’s inquiries. By fostering a culture of curiosity and encouraging open dialogue, parents can support their children’s intellectual development and create a positive learning environment at home.
