On a tragic Sunday morning in Mumbai, a devastating fire erupted in a shop-cum-residential building in Chembur, claiming the lives of seven individuals, including three children, as reported by a fire officer. The incident occurred at 5:20 am in Sidharth Colony.
The structure consisted of two floors, with the lower level functioning as a shop and the upper level as a residence. The fire originated from the electric wiring and installations on the ground floor before spreading to the residential area above. Firefighters swiftly responded to the scene and classified the fire as a ‘level-one’ incident, signifying a significant yet manageable fire.
Tragically, all seven individuals injured in the fire were rushed to Rajawadi Hospital but were declared deceased upon arrival. The victims have been identified as Paris Gupta (7), Manju Prem Gupta (30), Anita Gupta (39), Prem Gupta (30), Narendra Gupta (10), Vidhi Chediram Gupta (15), and Gitadevi Dharamdev Gupta (60).
Efforts to extinguish the fire involved the deployment of fire engines, water tankers, and additional support, successfully bringing the situation under control by 9:15 a.m. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, as authorities work to determine the circumstances that led to this tragic loss of life.
