At a highrise in Mahalaxmi, as the skies turned a beautiful lilac hue, workers continued their daily tasks without skipping a beat. Meanwhile, over in Bandra, the Bombay to Barcelona Canteen at the St Paul’s Institute of Communication Education complex was undergoing a green makeover. Managed by homeless and underserved youth, the canteen was facing challenges due to ongoing roadwork in the area. To combat the dust and noise, the staff decided to add some plantations to the space. Founder Amin Sheikh shared, “To plant a garden is to believe in a tomorrow,” as they transformed the canteen with artistic plant shelves.

In Marol, a unique environmental initiative caught the attention of residents. The butterfly installation, conceptualized by Ministry of Mumbai’s Magic and Dream Marol, served as a reminder of the plastic waste issue plaguing the city. The installation, shaped like a butterfly, showcased different types of plastic waste collected from the area. Suresh Nair, managing trustee of Dream Marol, expressed plans to take the initiative across Mumbai and eventually to other cities in India to raise awareness about plastic pollution.

The Prabhadevi Festival by Shivadnya Foundation was a much-anticipated event celebrating the diverse culture and traditions of Maharashtra. From cooking competitions to photography contests, the festival promised a vibrant showcase of talent and creativity. Secretary of the Foundation, Pranit Khadpe, encouraged Mumbaikars to join in the festivities and immerse themselves in the rich culture of the state.

IAS officer Nidhi Choudhari, currently serving as the director of National Gallery of Modern Art Mumbai, showcased her poetic side with a new book of poems titled Chhal Karta Paimana. Reflecting on love and life, Choudhari shared her passion for literature that began during her college days in Rajasthan. Despite her busy schedule, Choudhari continued to pursue her love for writing and was working on a novel set for release next year.
