The Shiv Sena (UBT) recently announced its first list of 65 candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly election. Despite ongoing discussions about seat-sharing within the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, the party decided to move forward with its nominations.
Among the candidates, 14 of the 15 sitting Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) were renominated, which includes prominent figures like Aaditya Thackeray and Sunil Prabhu. Former Member of Parliament Rajan Vichare has also been selected to contest from the Thane constituency.
Some of the notable sitting MLAs who secured renomination are Aaditya Thackeray (Worli), Sunil Prabhu (Dindoshi), and Sanjay Potnis (Kalina). However, Ajay Chaudhari, the current representative of Shiwadi and the party’s group leader in the assembly, was notably absent from the first list. The party is reportedly considering Sudeer Salvi as an alternative candidate for this constituency.
Additionally, the list includes other significant nominations such as Kedar Dighe, who will challenge Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in the Kopari-Pachpakhadi constituency. Varun Sardesai from Vadre East, Snehal Jagtap from Mahad, Shankarrao Gadakh from Nevasa, and Dilip Sopal from Barshi are also notable candidates on the list.
As the election season heats up in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena’s announcement of its candidates adds a new dimension to the political landscape. With familiar faces being renominated and new contenders stepping up to the plate, the assembly election is shaping up to be an exciting and closely contested affair.
