Maharashtra Assembly elections: MVA expected to allocate more seats to Congress and Shiv Sena
With the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections in 2024 on the horizon, the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is gearing up to allocate more seats to the Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) in a bid to strengthen their alliance. The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) has shown a willingness to settle for a smaller share of seats, paving the way for a more equitable distribution among the alliance partners.
Following a recent meeting on Friday night, it was revealed that the NCP (SP) is open to accepting between 80-90 out of the 288 seats up for grabs. This gesture from Pawar’s party indicates a strategic move to focus on quality over quantity, aiming for a high success rate in the elections similar to their performance in the Lok Sabha polls.
If the NCP secures 80 seats as per their preference, the Congress and Shiv Sena may receive around 100 seats each. However, these numbers are subject to change based on the final settlement reached by the MVA. Smaller allies within the coalition will also receive their fair share of seats based on their respective strengths and contributions.
The meeting held on Friday was crucial as it took place amidst a verbal spat between leaders of the Congress and Shiv Sena regarding the selection of a Chief Minister candidate from their parties. Despite the differences, the alliance partners are working towards a consensus to ensure a smooth election campaign and a united front against opposition parties.
While no definitive agreement was reached during the meeting, discussions are ongoing to finalize the allocation of seats. Sources indicate that any remaining issues will be resolved promptly to maintain the cohesion and strength of the MVA ahead of the elections.
In the run-up to the Maharashtra Assembly elections in 2024, the MVA’s decision to allocate more seats to the Congress and Shiv Sena reflects a strategic approach to consolidating their alliance and maximizing their chances of success at the polls. With the NCP’s willingness to compromise on seat-sharing, the stage is set for a united front that is poised to make a strong impact in the electoral arena.
