Amidst a stalemate within the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) over seat-sharing for the Maharashtra assembly election, allies Congress and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) met with Nationalist Congress Party (SP) chief Sharad Pawar for discussions. The meeting took place at the YB Chavan Centre in Mumbai, where Congress leader Naseem Khan and Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Aaditya Thackeray, Sanjay Raut, Anil Parab, and Anil Deshmukh were present.
The aim of the meeting was to reach a consensus on seat-sharing for the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly election. Talks among MVA allies are focused on 10 to 12 seats, with discussions on which party can provide the best candidate for each seat. Congress leader Naseem Khan mentioned that they are working towards finalizing the remaining 10 per cent of the seats through discussions with Sharad Pawar, who is considered the architect of MVA.
Tensions among MVA allies over specific seats have led to a public disagreement between state Congress chief Nana Patole and Shiv Sena (UBT) Member of Parliament Sanjay Raut. In response, party chief Uddhav Thackeray urged his allies to avoid reaching a breaking point. The nomination process for the Maharashtra Assembly election is scheduled to commence on October 22.
In other political developments, Janata Dal (United) leader Kapil Patil has joined the Congress in Delhi. Additionally, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its first list of 99 candidates for the Maharashtra Assembly election. The move has sparked criticism from NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) spokesperson Clyde Crasto, who accused the BJP of endorsing dynastic politics by nominating relatives of influential leaders for the election.
Some of the notable candidates in BJP’s list include Sreejaya Chavan, the daughter of former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, who will be contesting from the Bhokar constituency in Nanded district. Nitesh Rane, the son of former Union minister Narayan Rane, has been re-nominated for the Kankavli seat in Sindhudurg district. Santosh Danve, the son of former Union minister Raosaheb, will also be fighting from the Bhokardan constituency in Jalna.
As the seat-sharing discussions continue among MVA allies and political parties gear up for the Maharashtra Assembly election, the political landscape in the state is witnessing significant developments. Stay tuned for more updates on the unfolding political scenario in Maharashtra.
