Seven flights were impacted on Tuesday due to bomb threats that were made on social media. These threats led to diversions, delays, and searches for the affected flights. One Air India flight headed to Chicago had to land at a remote Canadian airport, while another Air India Express flight to Singapore was escorted by two F-15 fighters away from populated areas. All flights subjected to these threats were found to have no explosives on board.
The threats were issued via social media to several flights, including Air India Express, SpiceJet, Akasa Air, Indigo, Alliance Air, and Air India. All threats came from a single account, @schizobomber777, which was suspended during the day. The most dramatic incident involved flight IX684, which was escorted by Singapore Air Force jets out to sea before landing safely in Singapore. Another flight to Chicago was diverted to Iqaluit, Canada, while the Indigo flight from Dammam to Lucknow was diverted to Jaipur.
Some flights were delayed while security checks were carried out, such as the Air India Express flight from Ayodhya to Bengaluru, which was delayed for three hours. The SpiceJet flight from Darbhanga was directed to an isolation bay in Mumbai as a precaution. Akasa Air’s affected flight landed safely in Bengaluru, and Alliance Air’s flight was undergoing security checks in Dehradun.
On Monday, three international flights and a train received similar bomb threats that were later found to be hoaxes. Two individuals have been detained in connection with these threats. Authorities are taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of passengers and flights in light of these incidents.
