Eid-e-Milad Celebration on Sept 18: Mumbai Civic Body Offices and Schools to Operate Normally

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced that Eid-e-Milad will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 18, instead of the previously scheduled date of Monday, September 16. This decision comes in line with the directive issued by the Maharashtra government.

All BMC offices and schools in Mumbai will continue to operate as usual on Monday, September 16, despite the celebration of Eid-e-Milad being postponed to Wednesday. The Maharashtra government has opted to cancel the public holiday originally slated for Monday, September 16, and instead declared Wednesday, September 18, as the official public holiday for Eid-e-Milad.

This change in holiday dates has been put in place to ensure that the processions held on both Anant Chaturdashi and Eid-e-Milad maintain social harmony and do not clash. The Maharashtra state government has made this announcement, and the BMC has followed suit by adjusting its holiday schedule accordingly.

As a result of the revised holiday dates, all BMC offices in Mumbai and Thane district (with the exception of essential services such as cleaning, hospitals, clinics, maternity homes, water works, electric washing stations, fire stations, security, Deonar slaughterhouse, and emergency management) will observe a public holiday on September 18.

Additionally, the Mumbai Police has issued a traffic advisory for motorists in anticipation of the Eid celebrations in Mankhurd on September 18. The police have estimated that around 70,000 to 80,000 people will participate in the festivities, with an expected presence of 100 to 200 two-wheelers and 50 to 55 larger vehicles.

In the traffic notification issued by Pradeep Chavan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (eastern suburbs), Traffic, Mumbai, it was outlined that there will be restrictions on vehicle movement around Mankhurd on September 18. Heavy vehicles will not be permitted entry between Chheda Nagar Junction and Mankhurd T Junction on the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road, except for Eid-e-Milad vehicles and BEST buses. Light vehicles are advised to use the Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road flyover for travel.

Parking restrictions will also be in place on various roads in the area, including Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road (between Chheda Nagar Junction and Mankhurd T. Junction), Madhukar Kadam Marg, and P.L. Lokhande Marg.

The adjustments in holiday dates and traffic regulations have been implemented to ensure the smooth celebration of Eid-e-Milad and to facilitate the safety and convenience of all residents and participants. The BMC and Mumbai Police are working together to make sure that the festivities are enjoyed in a harmonious and organized manner.
