Authorities in Thane district, Maharashtra, have been swift in resolving poll code violation complaints received on the cVIGIL platform. The mobile application, developed by the Election Commission of India, allows citizens to report violations of the model code of conduct during elections. With the Maharashtra assembly elections scheduled for November 20, the timely resolution of complaints is crucial.

According to reports, a total of 348 complaints were received on the cVIGIL platform in Thane district since the model code of conduct came into force in mid-October. Of these complaints, an impressive 87.99 percent have been resolved within 100 minutes, demonstrating the efficiency of the authorities in addressing poll code violations.

In addition to the swift resolution of complaints, the scrutiny of nomination papers has also been a significant process in preparation for the upcoming elections. Out of the 7,994 candidates who filed nomination papers across the 288 assembly constituencies in Maharashtra, 921 papers were found invalid after scrutiny. This rigorous scrutiny ensures that only eligible candidates participate in the electoral process.

The main contenders for power in the upcoming elections are the ruling Mahayuti alliance, consisting of the BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP, and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi, comprising the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar). However, smaller parties and independent candidates also add diversity to the poll fray.

The election authorities’ swift response to poll code violations and the thorough scrutiny of nomination papers are essential steps in ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process in Maharashtra. With the assembly elections just around the corner, these measures contribute to maintaining the integrity of the democratic process.

As citizens, it is important to remain vigilant and report any violations of the model code of conduct through platforms like cVIGIL. By actively participating in the electoral process, we can contribute to upholding the principles of democracy and ensuring free and fair elections in our state.
