The first phase of Mumbai’s underground Metro corridor, known as the aqua line, opened to the public on Monday, stretching from Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Aarey. The inauguration was done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 5th. The aqua line saw a total of 15,713 commuters on its first day of operation, with many passengers expressing excitement and hope for a more convenient commute.

Despite the positive reception, there were reports of glitches with the safety doors and escalators at some stations. Commuters have also called for an integrated app for all Metro services in the city to streamline their travel experience. The aqua line will operate from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm on weekdays and from 8:30 am to 10:30 pm on Sundays, with fares ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 50.

The aqua line features 10 Metro stations between BKC and Aarey road, with only the Aarey JVLR station above ground. The other stations are all underground, providing a seamless travel experience for passengers. This new addition is the fourth Metro corridor in Mumbai, joining the existing operational lines in the city.

Overall, the opening of the aqua line marks a significant milestone in Mumbai’s public transportation system, offering residents a modern and efficient way to navigate the bustling city. With the promise of more convenient commutes and improved connectivity, the aqua line is expected to become a popular choice for many commuters in the days to come.
