IndiGo has launched its first long-haul routes from Mumbai to Manchester and Amsterdam with Boeing 787-9, improving India-UK connectivity. The airline will operate three weekly flights on the route using its Dreamliner aircraft, making it the only carrier offering direct connectivity between India and the Northern UK. Previously, Jet Airways operated the Mumbai to Manchester route with Boeing 777 before ceasing operations in 2019, forcing passengers to break their journey.

Connecting Mumbai with Manchester and Amsterdam
IndiGo’s new long-haul routes from Mumbai to Manchester and Amsterdam are set to enhance connectivity between India and the UK. The Mumbai to Manchester flights will operate on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, while the Mumbai to Amsterdam flights will operate on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. The airline’s Chief Executive Officer, Pieter Elbers, highlighted the importance of these new routes in strengthening the bilateral relationship between the Netherlands and India. The seamless travel experience provided by IndiGo in partnership with Schiphol Airport aims to deepen ties between the two nations.

Boosting tourism and trade
The launch of these direct flights is expected to boost tourism, facilitate travel for students and professionals, and foster stronger economic, educational, and cultural ties between India and the UK. The increased connectivity will also support the growing Indian diaspora in the region and unlock new opportunities for bilateral trade and collaboration. Manchester Airport’s Managing Director, Chris Woodroofe, emphasized the significance of this new route in establishing the airport as one of Europe’s best-connected airports with a direct connection to India.
