The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has announced that the Igatpuri to Amne portion of the Samruddhi Expressway, spanning 76 kilometers, will be completed by the end of September. This news comes as a relief to motorists who have been eagerly waiting for this stretch to open. While the exact date of the opening has not been declared by MSRDC, there are speculations that it will be unveiled before the Maharashtra State Assembly election code of conduct is announced.
This final segment of the Samruddhi Expressway boasts five tunnels and 16 bridges. MSRDC is also focusing on repairing potholes and strengthening the road that links the expressway to the Mumbai-Nashik highway. Currently, travelers heading from Nagpur to Igatpuri have to rely on the old Mumbai-Nashik highway before being able to access the Samruddhi Expressway.
Once the Igatpuri to Amne stretch is operational, vehicles will have the option to bypass the congested Kasara ghat and the old Mumbai-Nashik highway, leading to time savings and reduced traffic congestion. Additionally, MSRDC has plans to widen the 23.05 km section of the old Mumbai-Nashik highway between Thane and Vadpe. This expansion project is expected to be completed by February-March of the following year.
The Samruddhi Expressway plays a crucial role in connecting Maharashtra’s commercial and agricultural areas. Spanning 701 kilometers, the expressway traverses diverse landscapes, from dry deciduous forests near Nagpur to the Western Ghats near Mumbai. The completion of the Igatpuri to Amne section will enhance connectivity and facilitate smoother transportation across the state.
In addition to enhancing connectivity, the Samruddhi Expressway is expected to boost economic activities in the regions it passes through. By providing a faster and more efficient transportation route, the expressway can facilitate the movement of goods and people, ultimately contributing to the overall development of Maharashtra’s infrastructure and economy.
As the construction progresses and the opening of the Igatpuri to Amne stretch approaches, motorists and residents alike can look forward to the benefits that the completed Samruddhi Expressway will bring to the state of Maharashtra. The project signifies a significant milestone in the state’s infrastructure development efforts and is poised to make a positive impact on travel, trade, and connectivity in the region.
