Shegaon: In a puzzling turn of events, residents of Shegaon tehsil have been grappling with a mysterious hair loss epidemic that has left many baffled and concerned. Even after three weeks since the first reports emerged of sudden hair shedding and overnight balding, the root cause of this phenomenon remains shrouded in mystery. More than 50 medical experts from esteemed institutions such as the Indian Council of Medical Research, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi, the National Institute of Virology in Pune, and local doctors have been diligently investigating the issue. The affected villages, totaling 12 in number, have been at the center of this hair loss spree that has gripped the region.
Chlorination Advisory and Collective Efforts
To address the situation, the district administration recently issued an advisory recommending the chlorination of all water resources in Shegaon tehsil, especially in the affected villages, as a precautionary measure to ensure a safe water supply. Kiran Patil, the Collector of Buldhana district, shared that while the spread of hair loss has thankfully halted, initial samples have revealed high nitrate concentrations in 40% of them. However, there is no cause for alarm as investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause behind this unusual phenomenon.

The hair loss epidemic has not only posed a health concern but has also led to discrimination against residents from the affected villages. Reports have surfaced of individuals facing exclusion from social gatherings, refusal of services, and even cancellations of important meetings, including marriage proposals. Local political leaders, including Narendra Khedekar, have expressed dismay over this discrimination and called for clear guidelines from the government to address such situations effectively.
