So, like, apparently, the Thane police in Maharashtra’s Thane district have totally busted this car rental scam, right? Like, can you believe it? Over 1,375 investors got scammed out of ₹20 crore! That’s insane, man. And get this, they recovered 246 vehicles that belonged to these poor investors. How messed up is that? Commissioner Madhukar Pandey spilled all the tea to reporters about this whole situation on Friday.
The whole scam started unraveling when the MBVV police decided to get their act together and register a case on April 20, you know? Like, good on them for finally doing something about it. Pandey spilled the beans about how this dude named Sandeep Suresh Kandalkar, also known as Raju Rajiv Joshi, sweet-talked investors into buying pickup tempos and four-wheelers. He promised them monthly returns of ₹55,000 to ₹75,000 if they let him use the vehicles for rental purposes. Sounds sketchy, right? Well, it totally was!
These scammers told the investors that the vehicles would be used for commercial purposes at airports and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust. Like, for real? Who falls for that kind of stuff? Anyway, they signed agreements on ₹100 stamp papers and collected payments online. At first, Kandalkar actually paid up, but then he started ghosting everyone, which led to the whole scam blowing up in their faces. What a mess!
So, they finally arrested Kandalkar on April 25, and his buddy Sachin Sunil Tetgure got caught the day before. But get this, there are like seven more people involved in this whole mess. Can you believe it? The police managed to recover 246 vehicles valued at around ₹25 crore. These scammers managed to dupe 1,375 investors out of ₹20 crore in total. Like, that’s a lot of money, man.
Another official mentioned that because the vehicles were at specific locations like the airport and JNPT, it was easier for the police to find and seize them. Makes sense, right? Apparently, the main dude has a long history of cheating and misappropriation. He’s got 13 cases against him in places like Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, and even Bharuch in Gujarat. Talk about a professional scammer, am I right?
Pandey mentioned that they’re trying to catch the other scammers involved in this whole thing. So, hopefully, they’ll bring them all to justice soon. Let’s hope they learn their lesson and stop messing with people’s hard-earned money. It’s just not cool, man.
So, yeah, that’s the whole deal with this car rental scam in Thane. Let’s hope the police can clean up this mess and put an end to these shady dealings once and for all. Stay safe out there, folks!
