A nervous thief’s mistake led to the recovery of ₹1.56 crore in stolen cash, unraveling a gripping tale of betrayal and deceit in Mumbai. The incident, which unfolded on February 22, involved a real estate agent and courier service business owner named Hitesh Khatri, who fell victim to a calculated heist orchestrated by his own employees. The intricate web of deception spun by the culprits, Vijay Rajput, Dhanaji Rajput, and Hitesh Rajput, ultimately unraveled due to a series of missteps that exposed their illicit activities.
The Heist Unfolds: Betrayal Among Colleagues
Hitesh Khatri, a prominent figure in the local business community, had entrusted his employees with confidential information regarding a substantial sum of ₹1.85 crore stored in a cupboard at his office in Bhoiwada, Girgaon. Little did he know that one of his trusted aides, Vijay Rajput, had divulged this sensitive information to his associates, Dhanaji Rajput and Hitesh Rajput, setting the stage for an audacious heist.
On that fateful day, Naresh Rajput, the second employee, alerted Khatri to the disappearance of the cash, triggering a frantic investigation into the brazen theft. Surveillance footage captured two unidentified individuals entering the premises at 9:15 am, swiftly absconding with the substantial sum of money. Khatri wasted no time in reporting the incident to the VP Road police, setting in motion a race against time to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the stolen funds.
The Unraveling: A Nervous Thief’s Downfall
The unraveling of the heist came to a head on February 23, when the railway police at Mumbai Central station intercepted Dhanaji Rajput, whose suspicious behavior and attempts to conceal his identity raised red flags. Dhanaji, who had brazenly split the loot with his accomplice, Hitesh Rajput, was apprehended with ₹1.05 crore in his possession, while Hitesh carried ₹51 lakh as they prepared to board a train bound for Gujarat.
Despite Hitesh managing to evade capture and absconding, Dhanaji’s cooperation with law enforcement proved instrumental in recovering the missing ₹51 lakh stashed away at Hitesh’s hideout in Gujarat. Senior Inspector Jagdish Kulkarni of the VP Road police lauded the swift actions of the authorities in apprehending Dhanaji and unraveling the intricate scheme orchestrated by the trio of deceitful employees.
As the wheels of justice turned, both Dhanaji Rajput and Vijay Rajput found themselves in the crosshairs of the law, facing charges of theft and conspiracy in a court of law. Their arrests on February 23 and subsequent remand to police custody until March 5 marked a significant breakthrough in the case, shedding light on the intricate dynamics of betrayal and greed that underscored the elaborate heist.
The saga of the nervous thief and his ill-fated attempt to abscond with a fortune serves as a cautionary tale of the perils of greed and deception in the high-stakes world of business. The recovery of ₹1.56 crore stands as a testament to the unwavering dedication of law enforcement officials in upholding justice and holding perpetrators of crime accountable for their actions. The pursuit of truth and justice continues as the hunt for the elusive Hitesh Rajput remains ongoing, underscoring the resilience and determination of those committed to safeguarding the interests of the public and upholding the rule of law.
