Mumbai BMC to Fix Potholes and Roads Before Ganeshotsav 2024

In a significant development, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced plans to address the issue of potholes and roads before the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival in 2024. The decision was made following a high-level meeting held at the BMC headquarters, which saw the attendance of top officials from the civic body.

With the aim of ensuring smooth and hassle-free travel for residents and drivers during the festive season, the additional municipal commissioner (projects), Abhijeet Bangar, has directed a swift and comprehensive repair of all city roads. The directive emphasizes the need to make sure that all roads are free of potholes before the commencement of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

To achieve this goal, repair work will be carried out intensively over the next ten days using the proven ‘mastic’ method. This method has shown positive results in the past and is expected to be effective in addressing the road-related issues in Mumbai.

BMC Commissioner and Administrator, Bhushan Gagrani, has issued clear instructions to urgently address potholes and repair bad patches of roads before the Ganesh immersion ceremonies take place in the city. The proactive measures taken by the municipal administration aim to prevent any inconvenience to citizens during the festivities.

In order to facilitate the repair work, the BMC has appointed 227 junior engineers, with one assigned to each municipal ward, to inspect roads daily and promptly repair any potholes using the mastic method. Additionally, assistant engineers, executive engineers, and deputy chief engineers are required to actively participate in field inspections to ensure the smooth completion of repairs.

While the planned repairs are underway, there is a concern that heavy rains before the Ganesh immersion ceremonies may damage the repaired roads. Therefore, all teams involved are urged to be extra vigilant and proactive in their approach to address any potential issues that may arise.

The BMC has emphasized the importance of coordination and planning among various departments to ensure the successful completion of pothole repairs. The mastic method will continue to be used for repairs, and departments are instructed to ensure that mastic cookers are in good working condition and readily available for use. Contractors have been tasked with monitoring and ensuring a steady supply of mastic to meet the demand promptly.

The commitment to addressing the issue of potholes and roads before Ganesh Chaturthi reflects the BMC’s dedication to providing a safe and comfortable travel experience for residents and visitors during the festive season. By taking proactive measures and implementing effective repair strategies, the BMC aims to enhance the overall infrastructure and ensure a smooth transition into the celebrations.

As preparations continue for Ganeshotsav 2024, the BMC remains focused on delivering quality repairs and maintenance to uphold the city’s infrastructure standards. With the support of dedicated officials and engineers, the BMC is working diligently to make Mumbai’s roads pothole-free and ready for the upcoming festivities.
