The Congress party has announced its second list of 23 candidates for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections. Kailash Gorantyal is the only sitting MLA who has been given a ticket again, and he will be contesting from the Jalna assembly constituency.
However, two sitting MLAs, Maroti Korote from Amgaon and Lahu Kanade from Shrirampur, have been denied tickets. They have been replaced by Rajkumar Puram and Hemant Ogale, respectively.
In Mumbai, the party has finalized candidates for three constituencies. Ganesh Kumar Yadav will be contesting from Sion-Koliwada, Yashwant Singh from Charkop, and Kalu Badheliya from Kandivali East. There are still contested seats in Mumbai, including Versova, Bandra West, Vile Parle, Colaba, and Anushakti Nagar.
The list also includes nominations for two seats that were previously disputed between Congress and Shiv Sena. Girish Pandav will be representing Nagpur South and Suresh Bhoyar for the Kamthi constituency. Anuja Kedar has been nominated for the Savner seat. She is the wife of senior leader Sunil Kedar, who has been disqualified from contesting elections for six years due to his involvement in a multi-crore scam.
To resolve ongoing disagreements over seat-sharing, senior Congress leader Balasaheb Thorat is set to meet Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray. The Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance partners have agreed to allocate 85 seats to each party, but decisions are still pending on the remaining 33 seats. Despite three days of negotiations, a consensus has not yet been reached.
The upcoming Maharashtra elections are crucial for all political parties involved, and the decisions made in the coming days will have a significant impact on the state’s political landscape. Stay tuned for more updates as the election date approaches.
