Installing Tire Killers in Thane to Prevent Wrong-Side Driving

In an effort to reduce accidents and traffic congestion caused by vehicles driving in the wrong direction, authorities in Thane have decided to install ‘tire killers’ on an experimental basis. The locations for these tire killers will be determined by the traffic police, and then installed by the municipal corporation. To ensure that drivers are aware of the presence of tire killers, boards will be placed 100 to 200 meters in advance to provide information.

Before the installation of tire killers, detailed information will be provided to the public in the designated areas. Additionally, adequate lighting will be ensured in these areas during nighttime. Furthermore, the installation of tire killers will be carefully monitored through CCTV cameras to ensure proper functionality. Municipal Commissioner Rao explained that the presence of tire killers will discourage vehicles from driving in the wrong direction, ultimately improving road safety.

Success in Traffic Congestion Control

Over the past fifteen days, significant progress has been made in controlling traffic congestion on Ghodbunder Road in Thane. Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao has stated that ongoing measures to alleviate traffic jams are continuously being reviewed to ensure effectiveness.

In response to a meeting held on September 6 to address traffic congestion on Ghodbunder Road and internal roads, another meeting was convened at the Civil Training Center of the Municipal Corporation. During this meeting, Pankaj Shirsat reported on the progress made in implementing the action plan devised to tackle traffic jams. He also highlighted current issues and proposed solutions, particularly focusing on the traffic situation between Gaymukh Ghat, Bhayander Pada, and Gaymukh areas.

Improving Road Infrastructure

One of the key challenges faced on Ghodbunder Road is the wear and tear caused by heavy vehicles passing through Gaymukh Ghat, weighing between 150 to 200 tons. To address this issue, the supervising engineer of the Public Works Department has suggested the need for concreting the road to prevent damage, especially during monsoons. Furthermore, the route has been transferred to the Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation for maintenance. In addition, the road from the Kapurbawdi-Majiwada flyover towards Mumbai, from the U-turn to Viviana Mall, will undergo asphalt resurfacing to improve road conditions.

Ensuring Road Safety

To enhance road safety and prevent accidents, small speed bumps will be installed on the roads in Thane. The municipal authority is committed to leveling all roads and ensuring they are free of potholes. Commissioner Rao emphasized the immediate need to address issues such as clearing service road hawkers, removing unauthorized parking, and fixing overhead wires to improve overall road safety conditions.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the installation of tire killers in Thane is a proactive step towards improving road safety and reducing traffic congestion. By implementing measures to deter wrong-side driving and enhancing road infrastructure, authorities are working towards creating a safer and more efficient transportation system for residents and commuters. Continued efforts and monitoring will be crucial in ensuring the effectiveness of these initiatives and maintaining smooth traffic flow in the region.
