In a recent development at the Mumbai Airport, the Union government has decided to ban Turkey-based company Celebi Airport Services from handling ground services at Indian airports. This decision comes after Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel raised concerns about the company’s operations and its alleged affiliations with Pakistan.
According to Patel, Celebi is responsible for almost 70% of the ground operations at Mumbai airport. The MLA, along with the party’s airport wing leader Kunal Sarmalkar, visited the airport and demanded that the Turkey-based company be barred from operating in India within 10 days.
Patel criticized Celebi for profiting from its operations in India while aligning itself with Pakistan politically. He questioned the logic of allowing a company linked to a nation that openly supports Pakistan to continue its operations in India. The Union government acted swiftly in response to Patel’s demands and revoked the clearances for Celebi Airport Services.
Despite concerns about potential disruptions to airport services, Patel assured that the staff working with the company would continue as usual, with only the service provider changing. He emphasized that his objection was directed at the company itself and not its employees, stating that the staff should not suffer due to the company’s affiliations.
On May 15, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security issued a letter revoking all services provided by Celebi Airport Services India Pvt Ltd, citing national security concerns. The decision to ban the Turkey-based company reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding national interests and security.
Overall, the ban on Celebi Airport Services marks a significant development in the aviation sector, highlighting the importance of ensuring that ground services at Indian airports are managed by companies that prioritize national security and integrity.
