Ex-RG Kar Hospital Principal Sandip Ghosh Continues to be Questioned by CBI in Doctor’s Rape-Murder Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been actively pursuing its investigation into the alleged rape and murder of a medic, with Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of state-run R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, remaining a key figure in the case. Ghosh has been appearing before the central agency for questioning for the 13th consecutive day, demonstrating the intensity of the probe.

Sources reveal that Ghosh, who served as the principal of the hospital where the body of the trainee doctor was discovered on August 9, has already spent over 130 hours answering the CBI’s inquiries. The agency has taken over the investigation from Kolkata Police following orders from the Calcutta High Court, underscoring the seriousness of the case.

Polygraph Tests and Arrests

In addition to Sandip Ghosh, civic volunteer Sanjoy Roy has also been a subject of interest in the investigation. Both individuals have undergone polygraph tests as part of the probing process, aiming to extract crucial information related to the case. Roy was arrested by Kolkata Police in connection with the alleged rape and murder of the postgraduate trainee doctor, further complicating the web of suspects in the tragic incident.

The CBI has included Ghosh in the First Information Report (FIR) filed in connection with its investigation into financial irregularities at the hospital during his tenure as principal. This move highlights the multidimensional nature of the case, encompassing both the heinous crime and potential corruption within the medical institution.

Search Operations and Money Laundering Cases

On August 25, the CBI conducted a thorough search operation at Ghosh’s residence in Beliaghata, Kolkata, as part of its efforts to uncover evidence related to the corruption cases. The agency is leaving no stone unturned in its quest for justice and accountability in the wake of the doctor’s tragic death.

Furthermore, the Enforcement Directorate has initiated a money laundering case to delve into the alleged financial irregularities at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital during Ghosh’s tenure and involving other individuals. This development underscores the gravity of the situation and the need for a comprehensive investigation into all aspects of the case.

Continuing Protests and National Outcry

Despite ongoing investigations and legal proceedings, protests against the death of the doctor continue to reverberate across the state and the nation. The public outcry reflects the deep-seated concerns regarding safety and accountability within the healthcare system, prompting calls for swift and decisive action to address the underlying issues.

As the CBI delves deeper into the case, the focus remains on uncovering the truth behind the alleged rape and murder of the medic, as well as shedding light on any financial improprieties that may have occurred at the hospital. The pursuit of justice for the victim and his family is paramount, as is the need to ensure transparency and integrity within the healthcare sector to prevent such tragedies from recurring in the future.
