### Santacruz Observatory Records Temperature Extremes
The Santacruz observatory in suburban Mumbai recorded a maximum temperature of 35.1 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 17.1 degrees Celsius. Additionally, the city observatory in Colaba reported a maximum temperature of 33.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 21.6 degrees Celsius. The IMD’s forecast for the next 24 hours predicts a “clear sky” for Mumbai and its suburbs.
### Air Quality Maintained at Moderate Levels
The Central Pollution Control Board’s SAMEER app provided an update on Mumbai’s air quality, categorizing it as ‘moderate’ with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 137 at 10:05 AM on January 19. Various regions in Mumbai showed ‘moderate’ AQI readings, with Bandra Kurla Complex at 185, Colaba at 117, Ghatkopar at 104, and Malad at 153. Borivali recorded ‘good’ air quality at an AQI of 78, while Deonar flagged ‘poor’ air quality with an AQI of 222. Navi Mumbai and Thane registered ‘moderate’ AQI levels of 131 and 106, respectively.
### BMC Implements Measures to Combat Rising Pollution
As air pollution levels escalate in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has revised guidelines for construction sites. The civic body will deploy squads at the ward level to monitor construction sites for compliance with pollution control measures. Sensor-based air pollution monitoring systems will be installed at all construction project sites, triggering immediate action if pollution levels exceed permissible limits.
