BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani Reviews Development Projects and Thalassemia Care in Borivali, Mumbai

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) Comprehensive Thalassaemia Care, Paediatric Anaemia, Cancer, and Bone Marrow Transplant Centre in Borivali (East) has been making a significant impact on the lives of many children, allowing them to lead normal lives. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Bhushan Gagrani recently visited the center and commended its work, highlighting the importance of bone marrow transplants in treating thalassaemia. He praised the efforts of the center as exceptional and crucial for the well-being of children in the community.

On August 21, 2024, Bhushan Gagrani embarked on a visit to Borivali and Kandivali to review various development projects in the area. The visit commenced with a meeting at the R Central Zone office in Kandivali (West), where the Commissioner engaged with officials on matters concerning water supply, transportation, and the rehabilitation of individuals affected by ongoing projects, as per a statement from the civic body.

During his visit, Gagrani inspected the Rajendra Nagar flyover in Borivali (East) and the Capacity Building Centre in Kandivali (East), which included the proposed Civic Amenities Centre. He also spent time at the Thalassaemia Care Centre, interacting with doctors and staff members, and acknowledging their dedication to enhancing the lives of children in need of medical care.

The BMC Commissioner reiterated the corporation’s commitment to providing quality healthcare services to residents of Mumbai. While private hospitals charge exorbitant fees ranging from Rs 25 to 40 lakh for a bone marrow transplant, the BMC offers this service free of charge at its treatment clinics. Gagrani further announced plans to enhance the center by integrating advanced technology and increasing staff capacity to ensure comprehensive care for children battling thalassaemia, anaemia, and cancer.

In addition to healthcare, Gagrani emphasized the importance of ensuring a consistent, clean, and adequate water supply in Borivali and Kandivali. He instructed officials to promptly identify and repair water leaks, stressing the need for swift responses to residents’ complaints to maintain the quality of life in the area.

Furthermore, the Commissioner underscored the significance of effectively rehabilitating individuals impacted by road projects, emphasizing the need to resettle them within the same zone. He directed staff members to gather specific information on housing availability for those affected to facilitate a seamless transition.

Gagrani concluded his tour by visiting the Rajendra Nagar flyover, the Capacity Building Centre on Akurli Chhed Road in Kandivali (East), and the anticipated Civic Amenities Centre on Ashok Chakravarty Marg. Following these visits, he issued directives for further action to continue the progress and development in the region.

BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani’s visit to Borivali and Kandivali highlighted the ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure, healthcare services, and overall quality of life for residents in these areas. With a focus on development projects and thalassemia care, the visit underscored the importance of community welfare and progress in creating a better environment for all.
