Eknath Shinde, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Shiv Sena chief, has filed his nomination papers from the Kopri-Pachpakhadi assembly constituency in Thane district for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections 2024. The Shiv Sena (UBT) has fielded Kedar Dighe, the nephew of late Anand Dighe, a prominent figure in Thane, in an attempt to challenge Shinde’s stronghold in the area.
Shinde paid his respects to the late Dighe at Anand Ashram and performed aarti before embarking on a rally. Accompanied by hundreds of supporters carrying Sena flags and posters of the chief minister, Shinde rode in a decorated vehicle resembling a chariot. The rally, which included prominent leaders from Shiv Sena, NCP, and Union minister Ramdas Athawale of RPI (A), started from Dutt Mandir at Modella Check Naka and made its way through the main streets of Thane before reaching the ITI centre where Shinde submitted his nomination papers.
The last date for filing nominations for the Maharashtra assembly elections 2024 is Tuesday. Ajit Pawar, the Deputy Chief Minister and NCP chief, also filed his nomination papers on Monday from the Baramati assembly seat. It is worth noting that Ajit Pawar’s nephew, Yugendra Pawar, is contesting from the same constituency as the NCP-SP candidate.
The Maharashtra assembly elections 2024 are scheduled for November 20, with counting set for November 23. In the previous elections, the BJP won 105 seats, Shiv Sena 56, and Congress 44. Sharad Pawar, the chief of the Nationalist Congress Party, expressed confidence on Monday that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) would form the government in Maharashtra to address the issues concerning the people.
Pawar highlighted concerns such as inflation, unemployment, farmers’ issues, women’s rights, and the welfare of the poor, criticizing the current ruling alliance for not adequately addressing these issues. He emphasized the need for a change in government to address the pending issues faced by the people of Maharashtra and prepare for a better future.
