Lalbaugcha Raja Ganesh Mandal Auction: Valuables Sold for Rs 2.35 Crore
The annual auction of valuable items offered to Lord Ganesha at the famous Lalbaugcha Raja pandal in Mumbai took place on Saturday evening, with an impressive total of Rs 2,35,54,000 being raised. The highlight of the auction was a 1-kg gold biscuit that fetched the highest price of Rs 75.9 lakh, surpassing its base price of Rs 71 lakh.
The auction saw various items being sold to enthusiastic bidders, including a small silver mooshak that was auctioned for Rs 16,000 and a 268-gram silver modak that fetched Rs 27,000. Additionally, two kids participated in the auction for a cricket bat offered to Lord Ganesha and successfully purchased it for Rs 29,000.
The treasurer of Lalbaugcha Raja mandal, Mangesh Dalvi, revealed that the organization had received Rs 5.65 crore in cash donations during this year’s Ganesh Chaturthi festivities. He mentioned that between September 7 and 20, devotees generously contributed Rs 5,65,90,000 in cash, along with 4,151 grams of gold and 64,321 grams of silver.
The iconic Lalbaugcha Raja idol, housed at the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal in Putlabai chawl, is a major attraction during Ganesh Chaturthi, drawing thousands of worshippers seeking blessings from the beloved deity. The Kambli family has been entrusted with the idol’s care and management of the associated celebrations for the past 80 years.
On the first day of the festivities on September 7, the mandal received donations totaling Rs 48.3 lakh, along with 255.80 grams of gold and 5,024 grams of silver. The public auction of gold and silver items offered by devotees took place at the mandap, showcasing the generosity and devotion of the worshippers.
The Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal continues to be a central hub of celebration and reverence during the vibrant festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. The first look of this year’s Lalbaugcha Raja was unveiled on September 5, setting the stage for one of Mumbai’s most anticipated events.
