PM Modi Lauds BioE3 Policy for Advancing Scientific Innovation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the recently approved “BioE3” policy by the Union Cabinet as a groundbreaking initiative that will drive scientific, industrial, and societal progress in the future. The policy, officially known as Biotechnology for Economy, Environment, and Employment, aims to promote high-performance bio-manufacturing within the Department of Biotechnology.
According to Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the BioE3 policy is designed to provide innovation-driven support for research and development as well as entrepreneurship across various thematic sectors. This strategic approach will not only boost technological advancements but also contribute to environmental sustainability and job creation.
Encouraging Innovation and Research through Vigyan Dhara Scheme
In addition to the BioE3 policy, Prime Minister Modi also commended the Vigyan Dhara scheme, emphasizing its role in fostering innovation and scientific research among young individuals. The scheme, aimed at propelling India towards global leadership in research, science, and technology, is expected to inspire a new generation of innovators and researchers.
The Union Cabinet’s approval of the continuation of three umbrella schemes of the Department of Science and Technology, now consolidated into the unified central sector scheme “Vigyan Dhara,” further underscores the government’s commitment to promoting scientific advancement and capacity building.
Key Components of the Vigyan Dhara Scheme
The Vigyan Dhara scheme, with a proposed outlay of Rs 10,579 crore during the 15th Finance Commission period from 2021-22 to 2025-26, comprises three primary components:
1. Science and Technology Institutional and Human Capacity Building: This component focuses on enhancing the infrastructure and human resources in the field of science and technology to support research and development activities effectively.
2. Research and Development: The scheme aims to facilitate and fund cutting-edge research projects in various scientific disciplines to drive innovation and technological breakthroughs.
3. Innovation, Technology Development, and Deployment: By promoting innovation and technology development, Vigyan Dhara seeks to bridge the gap between research outcomes and practical applications, fostering technological advancements across different sectors.
The integration of these components under the Vigyan Dhara scheme demonstrates a holistic approach towards promoting scientific research, innovation, and technology development in the country.
Through initiatives like the BioE3 policy and the Vigyan Dhara scheme, the government is laying the foundation for a vibrant ecosystem that encourages scientific exploration, fosters innovation, and propels India towards becoming a global hub for cutting-edge research and technology. By investing in scientific advancement and nurturing young talent, India is poised to make significant strides in the field of science and technology in the years to come.
