Financial Aid Available for Families Impacted by Badlapur School Assault

The Maharashtra government has stepped in to provide financial assistance to the families affected by the recent incident at a school in Badlapur. In response to the assault on two young students, the state has announced that ₹10 lakh will be given to the family of one girl through the women and child development department, while ₹3 lakh will be allocated to the family of another four-year-old student. Additionally, the education department has committed to funding both girls’ education up to the graduation level, ensuring that they have the necessary support to continue their studies.

This announcement was made by School Education Minister Deepak Kesarkar during a media interaction where he revealed the government’s plans to address the situation and prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. He stated, “To prevent such incidents from recurring, we have determined the responsibility of the concerned officials and taken action against those found guilty. Kamini Gaikar and Nirmala Ghure have been directed to be included as co-accused.”

Government Takes Action Against Officials

Following a review of suggestions from a two-member committee appointed by the government, several officials have been suspended for their role in the incident. Principal Archana Athawale was among those suspended, with Kesarkar noting that she had withheld information during the investigation. Kesarkar emphasized that appropriate action would be taken after the inquiry is complete to ensure accountability and justice for the victims and their families.

Measures for School Safety and Child Protection

In addition to providing financial aid to the affected families, the government is also implementing various measures to enhance school safety and child protection. One of the key initiatives includes installing CCTV cameras in schools and maintaining records for 15 days to monitor and prevent any untoward incidents. The process of imparting self-defence training in schools is already 50% complete, with plans to issue a comprehensive government order soon.

Kesarkar also announced the proposal to install panic buttons in every school to expedite emergency response in case of any security threats. Moreover, the school department will establish a help center at the education commissionerate in Pune, with contact numbers distributed to schools across the state to provide immediate assistance and support to students in need.

The government’s proactive approach to enhancing school safety and child protection reflects its commitment to ensuring a secure and conducive learning environment for all students. By implementing these measures and holding officials accountable for their actions, the government aims to prevent future incidents and protect the well-being of students in schools across Maharashtra.
