The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided not to contest the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly election in 2024. Instead, the party’s National Convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, will be campaigning for the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) coalition, which comprises the Shiv Sena (UBT), the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP SP), and the Congress.
This decision was confirmed by AAP leader Sanjay Singh, who mentioned that Kejriwal will be actively supporting the MVA candidates in Maharashtra. The MVA coalition is gearing up for the elections in Maharashtra, which will see voting take place on November 20.
In addition to Maharashtra, Kejriwal is also set to campaign for the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha in Jharkhand assembly polls. The Jharkhand elections will be held in two phases on November 13 and 20, with the counting of votes scheduled for November 23.
AAP and the MVA constituents are part of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA), which was formed before the 2024 Lok Sabha polls to counter the BJP. While AAP formed an alliance with the Congress in Delhi, Gujarat, and Haryana for the Lok Sabha polls, it contested independently in Punjab and Haryana assembly elections without success.
The Congress, a key player in the INDIA bloc, is also part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi in Maharashtra and the ruling alliance in Jharkhand. Meanwhile, the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the NCP (NCP) have released fresh lists of candidates for the Maharashtra Assembly election, with the elections scheduled to be held in a single phase on November 20 and results announced on November 23.
The collaboration between AAP and the MVA coalition highlights the strategic alliances being formed ahead of the upcoming elections, as political parties aim to strengthen their positions and secure victories in key states. Kejriwal’s active involvement in campaigning for the MVA candidates underscores the importance of unity and collective efforts in the political landscape.
As the election day approaches, the focus will be on the campaign strategies, candidate selections, and voter sentiments that will ultimately shape the outcome of the Maharashtra Assembly election and set the tone for the political landscape in the region.
