Snag at CSMT Causes Delays on Mumbai Harbour Line Local Train Services

A snag in a Mumbai local train at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) around 5:50 pm caused disruptions in the suburban services on Central Railway’s harbour line, leading to delays and overcrowding during the evening peak hours.

Affected Services and Overcrowding

The train, which was non-responsive for nearly 25 minutes on platform number 2 at CSMT, compounded problems for commuters. Additionally, the Auxiliary Warning System (AWS) of a CSMT-bound train was activated at Sandhurst Road and near Chunabhatti, resulting in crowding at Kurla station, a major stop on the route.

Previous Day’s Disruption

This incident marked the second consecutive day of disruptions on the harbour line, following a snag in the track circuit between Panvel and Khandeshwar stations in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon. The route from CSMT to Panvel in Navi Mumbai and Goregaon on Western Railway experienced delays and slow operations.

Impact on Passengers

With nearly 10 lakh passengers using the harbour line services, many were left stranded at various stations between CSMT and Panvel due to the delays of around 20-30 minutes. The rail traffic from the CSMT direction was also affected, causing inconvenience to commuters.

Scheduled Maintenance for Passenger Reservation System

In addition to the service disruptions, the Mumbai Passenger Reservation System (PRS) will undergo maintenance from Sunday midnight to early Monday morning. During this period, services like PRS, coaching refund services, IVRS, current reservations, and internet booking for Mumbai PRS trains will be unavailable. Passengers are advised to utilize the Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) for refunds in line with existing refund rules.

Call for Understanding

Despite the inconvenience caused by the maintenance work, the Railway Administration has requested passengers and rail users to bear with the disruption, emphasizing the necessity of the maintenance for the system’s functionality.

As we navigate through these disruptions, let’s remember that patience and understanding go a long way in dealing with unexpected challenges.
