On November 29, 2024, Mumbai experienced its coldest day in the last eight years, with the minimum temperature dropping to 16.5 degrees Celsius. This was slightly higher than the previous record of 16.3 degrees Celsius set in November 2016. The India Meteorological Department confirmed this significant drop in temperature, with the Santacruz observatory registering the new low.

Meteorologist Sushma Nair from IMD Mumbai explained that the recent cold spell was a result of easterlies and northerlies affecting the region. However, she reassured the public that there was no cold wave alert for Mumbai from November 30 to December 3. In fact, temperatures are expected to rise in the coming days due to a weather system developing in the Bay of Bengal.

Director Sunil Kamble mentioned that the warmer weather forecasted after December 3 was due to an upcoming depression in the Bay of Bengal. This would bring increased moisture to the region, leading to higher temperatures. As a result, Mumbai residents can expect cloudy skies in the next few days.

Aside from the temperature drop, Mumbai also recorded a maximum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius on Friday, with a humidity level of 48 percent. The city’s air quality index (AQI) stood at 106, with a PM2.5 level of 37 µg/m³ at 8:30 pm.

It is important to stay informed about the changing weather conditions in the region, especially as temperatures fluctuate. Keep an eye on the latest updates from the India Meteorological Department to prepare for any upcoming changes in the weather pattern. Stay safe and warm as we navigate through these shifts in temperature together.
