Sandeep Naik, the son of BJP’s Airoli candidate Ganesh Naik, made a significant decision by resigning from all party positions on Tuesday. It is speculated that he will be joining the Sharad Pawar-led NCP and is likely to contest in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections in 2024 from the Belapur constituency. In this electoral battle, he will be facing off against BJP candidate Manda Mhatre.

During his announcement of resignation, Sandeep Naik expressed his gratitude towards the Bharatiya Janata Party for the trust they had placed in him. He submitted his resignation from the position of BJP Navi Mumbai District President and from the party’s membership to State President Shri Chandrashekharji Bawankule.

The BJP recently released its first list of 99 candidates for the Maharashtra assembly elections 2024. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be contesting from Nagpur South West, while state BJP president Chandrashekhar Bawankule will be contesting from the Kamthi seat. Other key candidates in the list include Minister Girish Mahajan, Sudhir Mungantiwar, Sreejaya Ashok Chavan, Ashish Shelar, Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Rahul Narwekar, and Chhatrapati Shivendra Raje Bhosale.

The announcement of the candidate list came after a meeting held at Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s residence to discuss the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) strategy for the Maharashtra polls. Maharashtra has 288 Assembly seats, and the BJP is part of the ruling Mahayuti alliance alongside the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) and Ajit Pawar-led NCP.

As the election day approaches, both the Mahayuti alliance and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) are intensifying their preparations, including seat-sharing discussions. In the previous parliamentary elections, the opposition MVA outperformed the BJP by winning 30 out of Maharashtra’s 48 seats, while the BJP’s tally dropped to 9 from 23 in the previous election.

Maharashtra is all set to vote on November 20, with the results scheduled to be announced on November 23. The political landscape in the state is heating up as the various alliances gear up for the electoral battle ahead. Stay tuned for more updates on the Maharashtra assembly elections 2024.
