Mumbai is currently experiencing heavy rains as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a ‘yellow alert’ for thunderstorms and gusty winds until Tuesday morning. The city has been facing intermittent showers with thunderstorms and lightning since late Saturday, with the weather conditions expected to continue till 8:30 am on Tuesday.
The IMD has attributed the ongoing thunderstorms to a low-pressure area, a cyclonic circulation, and a trough over the Arabian Sea. An official from the IMD explained that the interaction between the easterlies and westerlies is causing the rain, but reassured that the rain should cease after this spell.
In the past 24 hours, Colaba received 18mm of rain, while Santacruz saw 3mm. The maximum temperature in Colaba was recorded at 32.4 degrees Celsius, which is 1.1 degrees below normal. Similarly, Santacruz recorded a maximum temperature of 33.7 degrees Celsius, 0.3 degrees below normal.
As the city braces for more thunderstorms till Monday, residents are advised to take necessary precautions and stay indoors during heavy rainfall. It is essential to be prepared for possible disruptions in daily activities due to the inclement weather.
Additionally, it is recommended to keep updated with the latest weather forecasts and alerts from the IMD to stay informed about any changes in the weather conditions. Stay safe and dry during this period of thunderstorms and heavy rains in Mumbai.
