Landslide on Badrinath National Highway in Uttarakhand Disrupts Traffic
Traffic on the Badrinath National Highway in Uttarakhand has been severely disrupted due to landslides in the Chamoli district. The district magistrate, Sandeep Tiwari, reported that repeated landslides have occurred in the region, causing around 250-300 vehicles to be stuck in Karnaprayag and 200 vehicles in Gauchar. The administration is working diligently to provide food and accommodation for the stranded passengers since Monday.
Arrangements for Stranded Passengers
Efforts are being made by the local administration in Chattwapipal to assist stranded travelers. Langars are being set up by the municipalities of Karnaprayag and Gauchar, along with hotel and lodge facilities to accommodate the passengers. Due to the continuous landslides since Monday, the national highway has been blocked, leading to the traffic standstill.
Information on Alternative Routes
District Officer Sandeep Tiwari emphasized the importance of providing information about alternative roads to the passengers due to the frequent closure of the highway. Passengers are being rerouted to Gauchar via Khal-Sarmola on Pokhari Road from Karnaprayag to ensure their safe journey. With queues of vehicles building up on both sides of Gauchar and Karnaprayag, measures are being taken to manage the traffic flow effectively.
Given the challenging traffic situation in Karnaprayag and Gauchar, vehicles coming down from Badrinath are being halted at Nandprayag, Chamoli, Pipalkoti, and Joshimath. Similarly, vehicles heading towards Gauchar and beyond are being stopped at Rudraprayag to prevent passengers from encountering unnecessary difficulties, as stated by Tiwari. The authorities are working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals affected by the landslide on the Badrinath National Highway in Uttarakhand.
