Ganesh Visarjan 2024: Devotees Bid Farewell to Beloved Deity in Mumbai

The city of Mumbai is buzzing with excitement as devotees gather to bid farewell to their beloved deity, Lord Ganesh, during the Ganesh Visarjan 2024 celebrations. The 10-day festival, known as ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’, which began on September 7, is coming to a close with the final immersion of Ganesh idols on ‘Anant Chaturdashi’.

In the vibrant Lalbaug area of Mumbai, famous for its grand celebrations, the procession of the idol of Tejukaya mandal has commenced amidst the resounding chants of ‘Ganpati bappa morya, pudhchya varshi lavkar ya’ (come soon next year Lord). This traditional chant echoes through the streets as devotees express their love and devotion to Lord Ganesh.

The iconic Lalbaugcha Raja idol, a crowd-puller during the festival, is also set to begin its procession for immersion. This idol attracts a large number of devotees, celebrities, and prominent personalities, adding to the festive fervor in the city.

Processions from various parts of Mumbai, including Fort, Mazgaon, Byculla, Dadar, and Chembur, are making their way towards the Arabian Sea and other water bodies for the final immersion, marking the culmination of this year’s festivities. The streets are filled with devotees eager to catch a final glimpse of the elaborately adorned idols of Lord Ganesh as they are carried out of pandals for their journey to the immersion sites.

At Lalbaug’s Shroff building, spectators gather to witness the ‘pushpa vrushti’ (showering of flowers) on the Ganesh idols, adding a touch of beauty and reverence to the occasion. The atmosphere is filled with joy and devotion as devotees participate in the immersion processions with great enthusiasm.

To ensure the safety and security of the devotees, more than 24,000 police personnel have been deployed across Mumbai during the immersion processions. The authorities are taking necessary precautions to prevent any untoward incidents and ensure a smooth and peaceful conclusion to the festivities.

In a bid to promote eco-friendly celebrations, the BMC has introduced a QR code system providing information on nearby artificial ponds for idol immersion. This initiative aims to guide citizens towards sustainable practices and reduce the environmental impact of the festivities.

As the city bids adieu to Lord Ganesh for the year, the spirit of unity, devotion, and celebration continues to resonate through the streets of Mumbai. The Ganesh Visarjan 2024 celebrations serve as a reminder of the rich cultural heritage and traditions that bring communities together in joy and reverence.

With the immersion processions in full swing, devotees are embracing the spirit of farewell with open hearts, knowing that Lord Ganesh will return next year to bless them with his divine presence once again. The Ganesh Visarjan 2024 festivities in Mumbai are a testament to the enduring faith and devotion of the people towards their beloved deity.
