The search operations for the Kerala landslides victims will continue despite heavy rainfall. The landslides in Wayanad have resulted in the death of 229 people, with over 130 still missing. The search operations had to be paused due to heavy rains in the Mundakkai and Chooralmala regions, but a detailed search is scheduled for August 12 and 13 to find the missing individuals.

State Minister P A Mohammed Riyas mentioned that a 190-member team, including NDRF, police, fire force, Civil Defence Force, Forest Department, and rescue workers, will be involved in the search operation across five zones. A total of 253 rental houses have been identified for the survivors of the landslide, and the rehabilitation process will be carried out after consultations with the survivors. Eighteen teams are currently conducting surveys at 14 relief camps to provide necessary assistance.

During a massive search operation, three body parts were recovered from the Kanthanpara forest region. Currently, 1,770 people are staying in 15 relief camps, including 673 women and 439 children. The Local Self-Government Department (LSGD) will organize a special camp to retrieve official documents, including ID cards, for the survivors who have lost everything in the disaster.

Despite the pause in search operations for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the affected regions, efforts will continue to locate the missing individuals and provide necessary support to the survivors. The state government is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of those affected by the devastating landslides in Wayanad.
