Uddhav Thackeray to Visit Families of Santosh Deshmukh and Somnath Suryavanshi

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray is set to meet the family of Beed sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh and the kin of Dalit man Somnath Suryavanshi in the first week of January. The visit comes in the wake of the murder of Deshmukh, which has sparked a significant political controversy.

Details of the Visits

Thackeray’s visit to Parbhani and Beed to meet the families of Somanth Suryavanshi and Santosh Deshmukh, respectively, was confirmed by Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut. This visit follows the recent meetings between NCP (SP) president Sharad Pawar and the families of Suryavanshi and Deshmukh. Additionally, the leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also met Suryavanshi’s family in Parbhani.

Investigation Updates

The police have made progress in the investigation, with four persons already arrested in connection with Deshmukh’s murder. Among them is the former tehsil chief of Ajit Pawar-headed NCP, Vishnu Chate. Authorities are currently searching for three other individuals who have been named as wanted accused in the case.

Background and Allegations

Preliminary investigations suggest that Deshmukh’s murder was a result of his opposition to extortion from a windmill company in Beed. Following his tragic death, protests erupted across Beed, especially after disturbing images of his body with injury marks circulated on social media.

In a separate incident, violence broke out in Parbhani city after a glass-enclosed replica of the Constitution near Dr B R Ambedkar’s statue was vandalized. Suryavanshi, who was in custody at the Parbhani district central jail, passed away at a state-run hospital after complaining of chest pain and uneasiness.

Rahul Gandhi has alleged that Suryavanshi’s death was a targeted attack against a Dalit individual striving to protect the Constitution, further adding to the gravity of the situation. The unfolding events surrounding these tragic incidents underscore the need for justice and accountability in society.

As we follow the developments in this case, it is crucial to remember the human stories behind the headlines and the impact of these events on the affected families. Let us strive for a society where such injustices are not just headlines but catalysts for meaningful change and progress.
