Two individuals, including a female firefighter, were injured in a fire that occurred in a 22-storey building in south Mumbai. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon in the Dongri area. The fire started on the 14th floor of the building, known as “Ansari Heights,” due to a cooking gas cylinder explosion in a flat. It quickly spread up to the 19th floor of the residential building.
One of the injured individuals is firewoman Anjali Amol Jamdade from the Mumbai Fire Brigade’s Mandavi station. She suffered an injury to her right shoulder while trying to extinguish the flames. The other person, identified as Nasir Muni Ansari, sustained 15 percent burn injuries. Both individuals were taken to JJ Hospital in Byculla for treatment, and their condition was reported as stable.
Due to the fire, residents on the upper floors of the building had to be moved to the terrace as a safety measure, as the staircase was filled with smoke. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation initially reported that the building had 15 floors, but the fire spread to multiple upper levels.
Firefighters responded to the scene with 12 fire engines, vehicles, and equipment. They were able to extinguish the flames by 5 pm. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported in this incident.
Earlier on the same day, a fire broke out in a seven-storey residential building in Andheri, a suburb of Mumbai. The fire started in a flat on the sixth floor of the ‘Chinchan’ building but was quickly brought under control, with no injuries reported. The cause of this fire is still under investigation.
