In the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly Elections of 2024, BJP leaders from Himachal Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka have criticized the Congress party for not fulfilling its promises in the states they govern. Former Union Minister Anurag Thakur led the charge, highlighting the Congress’s history of broken promises, particularly in Himachal Pradesh.
Thakur pointed out that the Congress had failed to provide subsidised electricity, financial aid for women, affordable milk, and employment opportunities as promised. He mentioned that the party had promised 300 units of free electricity but imposed a cess on electricity consumption instead. Moreover, the Congress failed to deliver on its promise of a monthly stipend of Rs 1,500 for women and five lakh jobs for the youth in Himachal Pradesh.
Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy also criticized the Congress government for not implementing key promises, including a Rs 2 lakh crop loan waiver for farmers, of which 40 per cent of cultivators had not received. He accused the Congress of using Telangana as an ATM to fund elections across the country, including in Maharashtra.
Union Minister Shobha Karandlaje raised concerns about Karnataka’s financial situation under Congress rule, stating that the state’s debt had increased dramatically to Rs 82,000 crore in just 18 months. She mentioned that the free transportation for women scheme, a major promise of the Congress, caused a significant monthly loss to the Karnataka state transport services, leading to the cessation of bus operations due to a lack of funds.
Karandlaje also criticized the Congress government in Karnataka for mismanaging the Gruhalaxmi scheme, which provides Rs 2,000 per month to eligible women. Due to fund shortage, the Karnataka government withheld allowances and reduced benefits to just one woman per family.
As Maharashtra heads towards the Assembly Elections on November 20, it is crucial for voters to consider the track record of the Congress-led governments in other states. The BJP leaders have urged Maharashtra voters to support the Mahayuti alliance for better governance and fulfillment of promises.
With inputs from PTI, the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections are crucial, with vote counting for all 288 constituencies set to take place on November 23. In the previous elections, the BJP, Shiv Sena, and Congress secured seats, indicating a competitive political landscape in the state. Voters will play a vital role in shaping the future of Maharashtra based on the promises and track record of political parties.
