A 58-year-old lady from Parel kick the bucket on Sunday evening at KEM hospital. Some individuals are claiming that the cause of death was COVID-19. The patient was admitted on May 14 at midnight after complaining of breathlessness and was under treatment at ward No. 20 of the hospital. Former mayor Kishori Pednekar told the media that the patient’s swabs did not test positive for any other illnesses, but she did test positive for COVID-19. Despite this, hospital authorities have denied these claims and reassured the public that there is no need to panic as there are no signs of another pandemic outbreak.

Dr. Mohan Desai, the medical superintendent at KEM Hospital, stated that testing for COVID-19 has become a standard protocol for patients with certain symptoms, but this does not necessarily indicate a resurgence of the virus. He mentioned a recent case where a 14-year-old patient tested positive for COVID-19 after death but did not die from the virus. Similarly, the 58-year-old patient’s cause of death is still under investigation, and it is not confirmed that COVID-19 was the primary reason for her demise.

The hospital is working to determine the exact cause of death, and Dr. Sandesh Paralkar, the acting dean of KEM Hospital, emphasized that COVID-19 should not be blamed for every death that tests positive after the fact. It is essential to differentiate between the presence of the virus and its actual role in causing fatalities. The public is urged not to panic and to trust the medical experts in handling such cases with caution and precision.
