India Coast Guard conducts special coastal cleanup drive at Girgaon Chowpatty in Mumbai
The Indian Coast Guard Region (West) took a proactive step towards environmental conservation by organizing a Special Coastal Cleanup Drive at Girgaon Chowpatty in Mumbai. This initiative, held in anticipation of the upcoming 49th Raising Day celebrations, aimed to underscore the Coast Guard’s unwavering dedication to protecting marine ecosystems and preserving the ecological balance of India’s coastal regions.
Enthusiastic Participation in the Cleanup Effort
Joined by volunteers from local schools and colleges in Mumbai, the Indian Coast Guard personnel led the charge in cleaning up the beach. The collaborative effort sought to instill a sense of collective responsibility for safeguarding the coastal biodiversity that is crucial to the well-being of the environment. Inspector General Bhisham Sharma, PTM, TM, Commander, Coast Guard Region (West), commended the active involvement of all participants, emphasizing the symbolic significance of the event beyond its surface purpose.

Various groups, including the Ismaili Civic Group, National Social Services, and the National Scouting Guiding Development Committee, lent their support to the cleanup drive. Additionally, the Mallakhamb display by Padma Shri awardee Uday Deshpande’s team and the Kalaripayattu martial art demonstration by Dr Nandini Jain and her team added a vibrant cultural dimension to the event. These diverse contributions showcased the unity and spirit of collaboration among the participants.
