Faizan Khan, a lawyer from Raipur, was arrested by Mumbai police for allegedly making an extortion call to the Bandra police landline and demanding ₹50 lakh from Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan. The arrest came after a threat call was made to the Bandra police station on November 5. Khan initially claimed that his mobile phone had been stolen on November 2, days before the incident. However, authorities were able to trace him through the mobile number used to make the call.
Bandra police traveled to Raipur on November 7 for questioning and discovered that Khan had filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the local police station regarding the alleged theft of his mobile phone. The FIR from Bandra police stated that the caller threatened to kill Shah Rukh Khan if the demand for ₹50 lakh was not met. The caller also warned that if any information was to be recorded, it should be under the name “Hindustani.”
Deputy Commissioner of Police Dikshit Gedam confirmed the threat made by the caller and stated that the case is currently under investigation. Due to the severity of the threat, Bandra police registered a case against Khan under sections 308 (4) (extortion by threatening death) and 351 (3) (4) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The police are in the process of completing transit remand procedures to bring Khan to Mumbai for further questioning. Once in Mumbai, the authorities will work to establish the motive behind Khan’s alleged extortion attempt. The case is being taken seriously, considering the threat made against a prominent figure like Shah Rukh Khan.
It is important for individuals to understand the consequences of making such threats and engaging in criminal activities. Extortion and intimidation can have serious legal implications and can result in severe penalties. The police are committed to ensuring the safety and security of all individuals and will take appropriate action to address such incidents.
