CBI Interrogates Another Doctor Linked to Ex-Principal in RG Kar Case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its probe into the rape and murder case of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital by interrogating another doctor, Birupaksha Biswas, who is allegedly a close aide of the arrested former principal, Sandip Ghosh. Biswas, who was recently transferred to a hospital in South 24 Parganas district, appeared before CBI officers at their office in Salt Lake area for questioning.
Connection to ‘North Bengal Lobby’
Birupaksha Biswas, believed to be part of a ‘North Bengal lobby’ operating in medical colleges, was spotted at RG Kar Hospital on the day the woman medic’s body was discovered. The term ‘North Bengal lobby’ is used to describe a group of doctors and officials in state-run medical establishments who are accused of threatening students. Biswas is under scrutiny for his presence at the hospital on August 9, despite not having any official business there.
Legal Troubles for Biswas and Colleagues
In a separate development, an FIR has been filed against Birupaksha Biswas along with two other doctors, Avik De and Ranjit Saha, at Bowbazar police station for allegedly intimidating students at various medical colleges and hospitals in West Bengal. The trio has been charged under Section 351 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to assault by making gestures or preparations that induce fear of criminal force.
The investigation into the RG Kar case continues to unfold with the interrogation of individuals connected to the former principal, shedding light on possible links to the heinous crime.
