The Mumbai police made a massive seizure of 8,500 kg of silver worth ₹80 crore at Vashi Toll Naka. Various enforcement agencies were on high alert for any suspicious activity, which led to the discovery of the silver bricks.
During a routine vehicle check at Vashi Toll plaza, the police came across a container with several silver bricks hidden under papers. The individuals in the container claimed that the silver was being transported from Chennai to Byculla for jewelry making. However, the documents they provided were not satisfactory, prompting the police to weigh the silver bricks, totaling 8.5 tonnes.
The Income Tax (IT) department and Goods and Services Tax (GST) department will now step in to verify the legitimacy of the silver bricks against the bills presented. This seizure comes shortly after another incident on November 9, where Vikhroli police intercepted silver bricks worth ₹65 crore weighing 6.5 tonnes. The individuals in that case stated that the silver was being transported from Byculla to Mulund.
Furthermore, on November 8, Wadala police seized gold balls worth ₹1.11 crore from an electrician traveling from Dongri to Andheri. The gold balls, containing 1,487g of gold, were made of gold dust powder and also originated from Chennai.
These recent seizures highlight the importance of constant vigilance by law enforcement agencies to prevent illegal transportation of valuable goods. The cooperation between various departments, such as the police, IT department, and GST department, is crucial in verifying the legitimacy of such transactions and cracking down on illegal activities.
It is essential for authorities to continue monitoring the transportation of goods to ensure compliance with regulations and prevent criminal activities. The recent seizures serve as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the city and prevent the misuse of valuable resources.
