The Mumbai police crime branch has taken action to bring Anmol Bishnoi, the brother of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, back from the United States in connection with the shooting incident at actor Salman Khan’s home in Bandra. Anmol Bishnoi, along with his brother and gang associate, has been named as a wanted suspect in the case. The police have secured critical evidence linking Anmol Bishnoi to the shooting incident, including WhatsApp chats and audio recordings. Shooter Vicky Gupta, who was in contact with Anmol regarding the attack, recorded their conversations and forwarded them to his brother, Sonu Gupta, who has become a key witness in the case.
The special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court has issued a non-bailable warrant for Anmol Bishnoi’s arrest and a Red Corner Notice has been issued to facilitate his tracking abroad. The police are in the process of formalizing the extradition proceedings and expect to submit a formal proposal to the central government soon. An IP address linked to a Facebook post claiming responsibility for the incident was traced to Portugal, despite recent findings placing Anmol Bishnoi in the United States.
In a related move, the Mumbai police have requested the central government to take custody of Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently held in Sabarmati Jail, Gujarat. Anmol Bishnoi is also facing increased scrutiny due to alleged connections with the killing of senior NCP politician Baba Siddique, a crime reportedly carried out by Bishnoi’s gang. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has announced a bounty of ₹10 lakh for information leading to Anmol’s location.
The shooting incident at Salman Khan’s residence occurred in the early hours of April 14, with two assailants firing multiple rounds before fleeing the city. Six individuals have been apprehended in connection with the case, including Harpal Singh, Mohammed Rafiq Sardar Choudhari, Vicky Kumar Gupta, Sagar Kumar Pal, Anuj Thapan, and Sonu Subhashchandra Bishnoi. Anuj Thapan, who was held by the Crime Branch, died by suicide on May 1. Choudhari, who filmed a video of Khan’s residence and was in communication with gang member Rohit Godara, admitted to receiving cash from the Bishnoi gang and distributing it to the shooters.
The police have recovered deleted videos and photos from Choudhari’s mobile phone, shedding light on the chain of events leading up to the shooting. The investigation has revealed a network of individuals involved in planning and executing the attack, with Anmol Bishnoi at the center of the operation. As the extradition proceedings move forward, the authorities are hopeful that bringing Anmol Bishnoi back to India will help uncover the full extent of his involvement in the case.
